A new entrant onto the South African whisky scene, produced with 100% local grain and matured in ex-bourbon for 5 years before being finished in French oak casks. The product is bottled at Doña Distillery in Cape Town and is the first of many that the team plan to produce over the coming years. The distiller, Danielle Schoeman, has started distilling and ageing their own grain whisky, but for this release they are sourcing, blending and ageing to deliver the taste profile they are aiming for. The mermaid logo represents the approach of how the team intend to marry the tradition of whisky with a new look and innovation. Bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Vanilla and roasted oak.

Palate: A well-balanced nutty, caramel and stone-fruit palate.

Finish: A well-refined finish with hints of maple and earth.

Doña (meaning woman of rank) is a craft distillery situated in the winelands in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town. Founder Danielle Schoeman graduated from Stellenbosch University with a business degree and worked in the corporate world for 6 years. She traded in her heels for tekkies and followed her heart to the Karoo where she experimented with making tequila. This journey led her to establish Doña Distillery with the aim to bring new and exciting spirits to the local and international market.

A treat for the beat

"I had the chance to taste this whisky twice - The first was in a penthouse music studio with a man well-verse in spirit alchemy. While we were conjuring up some spirits listening to a concoction of soul-rising local beats, my friends cracked a bottle of Toor and the rest was sweet dreaming history. The second time, possibly not so romantic , I had a tasting bottle delivered to my bar by an ambassador, but only managed to enjoy it a few days laster when I returned from a trip. It went down too easily. This is a great addition to South Africa's developing Whisky portfolio."
