Kavalan Taiwanese Whisky

Kavalan was the first producer of single malt whisky in Taiwan. The distillery is named after the indigenous Kavalan people, who originally inhabited the Kabalan Plain of modern-day Yilan County. The distillery was completed in late-2005, produced its first spirit in early-2006, and released its first bottling in late-2008. The famous Dr Jim Swan was consulted early on and he, together with master blender, Ian Chang, developed a strategy for production and maturation to deal with the extreme heat and humidity.

Kavalan has had massive success on the international circuit, and expanded the distillery in 2015/16, which now sees it being one of the ten largest malt whisky distilleries in the world. It is also the most visited distillery with over 1 million annual visitors!
