Produced at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, Western Cape, this excellent value-for-money, award-winning single grain has helped put SA whisky on the map and is playing a role in the gaining popularity of grain whisky. Matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks for 3 years, and then filled into another set of first-fill ex-bourbon casks for a few more years for an additional dose of flavour. Bottled at 43%.

Nose: Combination of toffee, floral and vanilla.

Palate: A hint of cardamom spice softened by the sweet undertones of oak. Soft and well-rounded with more vanilla, pear and apple.

Finish: A warm and extended mouth-feel with a balanced finish and lingering sweet citrus.

"Discovered this too late in my life! Always end up with one when whisky shopping."

Best Value for Money!

"Seriously underrated. This is an exceptional everyday whisky. Very much on the more fruit sweet spectrum. Lots of vanilla and peach and warm fudge. Thank Mr Watts!! 🙏🏾"

Solid grain

"I often get this as a gift - and worked quite well as a backup during lockdown. If you have to have a grain this is a good and patriotic one to keep in the house"

Superb, easy drinking South African Dram!

"A staple on my whisky shelf. Oak, sweetness and nutmeg are dominant on the nose with a soft vanilla influence. The palate is perfectly balanced with a degree of oiliness in the mouthfeel. The vanilla dominates, some fruitiness and something that reminds me of chai tea. The finish has a glowing citrus element that lingers and tapers into a dry but not unpleasant bitterness. Truly exceptional at its price point, don't tell Andy but I'd pay more."

Corny but in a good way

"The oak influence is a big feature here, and I think that they got the recipe just right. It was interesting seeing an interview with Andy Watts where he explained the process and the steps taken and time that was required to get the balance spot on in the end. This is one of those proudly South African buys that you can feel good about."

Best Single Grain Whisky in the World

"Awarded Best Single Grain Whisky in the World at the World Whisky Awards 2018! Made at the James Sedgwick Distillery by Icons of Whisky Master Distiller/Blender of the Year (awarded by Whisky Magazine), Andy Watts. Accessible, smooth, yummy! Sweet and velvety smooth with abundant vanilla, crème brûlé and warm spice. My every day go to whisky!"

Something in it for everyone

"What I love about Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky is that its profile and complexity has something in it for everyone - whisky novices will appreciate the lighter and sweeter notes whereas aficionados appreciate the depth of flavours. Havent experienced another whisk(e)y that offers the same range, especially at its price point! An incredible offering from Africa's only master distiller, Andy Watts!"

Proudly SA and Proudly Delicious

"Since it's launch in 2009, Bain's has offered a great tasting grain whisky at great value-for-money. Lovely vanilla sweetness, rich mouthfeel and easy-drinking neat, with water or over ice. Thank you Andy (master distiller) for your vision all those years ago!"
