Launched in 2011 as a replacement to the Auchentoshan 10yo when the core range was revamped. The 12yo is triple-distilled, as is all Auchentoshan spirit, and matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry and American bourbon casks. Bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Crème brulee, a burst of citrus and the signature nuttiness (toasted almonds) and green leafiness.

Palate: Smooth and sweet with hints of tangerine and lime. Mandarins, toffee and honeysuckle.

Finish: Gingery and slightly drying, with a pleasant lingering nuttiness.

Easy drinking and value for money

"So this is one of my favorite Auchentoshan bottles and it goes a very long way for the price. I must say (and I know this is sacrilege to some but I prefer this with a drop (more like a teaspoon) full of water. It opens up the flavour profile immensely and gives you that smokey wood taste and for this triple distilled spirit that really works! Highly recommended buy at this price."

Just interesting enough

"One of the last triple-distilled scotches - plays out of its socks at this price - and the Scots wear knee-high kilt hose so that's saying something"

Buy it NOW

"This does not make sense, the price must be wrong. When tasting this your taste buds will explode into tears of joy. The price VS the quality of whisky you get just makes -sense. It's the one whisky I love to give to friends and hope they never find out how much I paid, because they think I spent R1000 and then I get a nice gift on my birthday."

Thoroughly enjoyed

"I really enjoy this 12 year old Auchentoshan whiskey, it has a full bodied flavour with a deep flavour of dark fruit , It is extremely smooth and a perfect whiskey for a late night drink"

My new favourite this summer

"This was my first bottle of Auchentoshan and I am really enjoying it. It is light and smooth and there is an unusual flavour of mandarin. It makes for a great summer dram, neat, with ice or even in a cocktail. This stands out for me from other everyday drinking drams."

It's....fine?

"It's smooth, sweet (hello e140a!), coconutty. I'm not a fan of Glenfiddich 12 but it works a lot better as an introduction to scotch than this. At this price point just go with Glenmorangie 10y, quite honestly."

Easy drinking, but lacking in integrity

"Tastes great... but that's because of all the caramel colourant they add! You're better off getting an Irish if easy drinking whisky's are your thing."

M. D. (2/5)

Entry level lowland

"This dram goes to show that triple distilled does not necessarily mean flat and lacking in flavour. There are a lot of nice aromas and tastes going on with a mix of caramel, nuttiness, and tangerines. I wonder if it wouldn't have even more body and depth if it remained uncoloured and un-chill-filtered before bottling though. Still good value at this price!"
