Launched in 2023, this is the fifth and final release in The Ian Hunter series, a range of whiskies honouring the legacy of Ian Hunter, the last of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery, between 1908 and 1944. Every year a new chapter is told and Book 5 pays homage to Ian’s enduring spirit. Distilled in 1989, matured in first-fill ex-bourbon American oak barrels and finished in Pedro Ximénez European oak hogheads. Non-chillfiltered and bottled at 45.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Lightly peaty with iodine and burnt wood notes. Floral green malt, sweet candyfloss and vanilla fudge, nimble fruit accents of blueberry and raspberry.
Palate: Sweet and spicy, with the characteristic Laphroaig peaty reek and hints of cold barbecue ash kiln wall. Salted caramel and butterscotch, roast chestnuts, a hint of peach, dried flowers and white pepper.
Finish: Peaty and malty, with praline notes and lingering sweetness.
