This release is a WHISKYBROTHER EXCLUSIVE; selected by our team, bottled for us, and not available anywhere else in the world. |
Our first exclusive release from the Benromach distillery in Speyside! This lightly peated official bottling was distilled on 25 April 2014, matured for 11 years in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, and bottled on 28 August 2025. Only 299 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at a cask strength of 59.8%.
Nose: Rich caramelised sugar, strawberry jam and stewed plums, Seville orange and toffee sauce. Hints of molasses, toasted orange peel and gentle bonfire smoke emerge with time.
Palate: Sweet red apple and cinnamon crumble layered with burnt orange marmalade, stem ginger and dark chocolate. Balanced by soft smoke and lingering autumnal spice.
Finish: Long and warming with fading spice, oak char and traces of orange zest and cocoa, leaving a softly smoky aftertaste.
Benromach, originally established in 1898, is an independent distillery owned by Gordon & MacPhail, the famed independent bottler, since 1993. As one of our favourite distilleries, with a distinctive house style, it has long been a mission of ours to bring Benromach to South Africa — and we’re thrilled to finally offer this single cask. Benromach spirit is lightly peated (10–12ppm) using mainland peat, rather than coastal or Islay peat, giving a gentle earthy smoke instead of overt peatiness. This style was typical of Speyside whiskies in the 1950s but is rarely produced today.
