Originally launched in 2015 as part of independent bottler Douglas Laing's Remarkable Malts series, the name Rock Oyster was changed in April 2019 to Rock Island (following marketing feedback that oysters were too much of a polarising food). The blended malt is comprised of malts whiskies produced on the various Scottish islands in small batches, including those distilled on Islay, Arran, Orkney and Jura. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46.8%.

Nose: Wave-soaked rocks and a salty oceanic fresh influence.

Palate: Subtle to start with soft and rather sweet peat paralleled with smoke, honey, damp ash, liquorice and late pepper.

Finish: All of what went before is neatly replicated in the moreish finish.

Decent entry level for a smokey palate (3. 5)

"Bought my first bottle in 2025. Not bad, but with that price tag, I would rather buy a bottle of Talisker (10) or Caol Ila (12)."

A Lovely Dram

"In my opinion, a good whisky is one in which you experience different flavors and complexity whenever you have a nose or sip. This is a perfect example of the above. Lots of licorice, damp ash and soot, soft peat, maritime and coastal notes are all balanced with a wonderful vanilla creaminess throughout that makes this dram very enjoyable and well worth it."

The Sea in your glass

"I love this release. Full of the ocean, peat and small islands in the Atlantic."

Sweet and mellow

"This is a very easy drinking whisky with a very sweet and light palate. It has a sweet nose that on the palate is joined by a brininess and a light smoke. It is a good whisky for a newer drinker or someone who prefers a softer Scotch."
