DESCRIPTION
A limited-edition release created to celebrate Nikka’s 90th anniversary. Nikka Nine Decades combines malt and grain whiskies distilled across nine decades (1940s–2020s) and six Nikka distilleries, including Ben Nevis. More than 50 batches make up the blend, featuring the oldest whiskies from Miyagikyo and Yoichi, newer grain whiskies from Moji and Satsumastukas, and mature grain whisky from Nishinomiya. Each bottle is hand-crafted using Edo-Bori, a traditional glass-carving technique from Tokyo, and presented in a lavish display box with a mirrored interior that honours the master blenders behind Nikka’s 90-year history. A total of 4,000 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered and bottled at 48%.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: A rich apple pie and raisin sweetness with toasty barrel-ageing notes lead into a gentle smokiness and the nostalgic scent of antique furniture. Complex and layered aromas give the impression of standing in the warehouse where the whisky has peacefully slumbered.
Palate: Mellow oak with profound depth forms a base, structuring the spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts, and rich dark chocolate aromas. A subtle bitterness from the peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, while an overall warmth gives the impression of sitting in front of a fireplace.
Finish: Gentle peat is enveloped by the full body, with sweet and sour notes introducing a pleasant bitterness on a very long finish.
