DESCRIPTION

From north-facing slopes in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this 2020 Chardonnay captures the maritime freshness and sandstone depth that define the region’s finest whites. Sourced from CY5 clone vines rooted in Longlands and Avalon soils interlaced with fine Table Mountain sandstone and 15% clay, the grapes were handpicked in early March, chilled overnight, and whole-bunch pressed to 1 bar. Fermented with Lallemand ICV D21 yeast in barrel and matured on the lees (without stirring) for four months before light filtration and bottling on 12 August 2021. Residual Sugar 2.5g/l. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Alluring aromas of white blossom, honeysuckle, and ripe persimmon mingle with delicate notes of vanilla pod and crushed sandstone. A faint trace of sea spray and citrus pith lends lift and freshness.

Palate: Silken and gently layered, revealing ripe stone fruit and baked pear underscored by a subtle creaminess from barrel fermentation. The texture is refined rather than opulent, balancing fruit purity with quiet depth.

Finish: Long and composed, framed by gentle oak spice and a whisper of minerality. A faint saline edge and measured acidity bring clarity and persistence, leaving a final impression of elegance and coastal poise.
