Launched in 2015, The Macallan Edition No. 1 is the first release in the annual Edition series. Produced from a blend of single malts matured in 8 different styles and sizes of American and European oak casks selected by Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno: first-fill Tevasa butts, Toneleria Hudo butts, Vasyma puncheons, J&M Martin butts, Gonzalez Byass butts and Tevasa puncheons; and second-fill sherry hogsheads and sherry butts. The only American white oak casks were the Vasyma puncheons, while the rest used European oak. Naturally coloured and bottled at 48%.
Nose: Orange, apple and dried fruit notes with a vibrant and rich aroma. Vanilla, toffee and chocolate underlay oak overtones.
Palate: Warming wood spices open followed by nutmeg, cinnamon, hints of dried ginger and toffee. Fruit appears later - fresh and balanced with fresh oak.
Finish: Soft and lingering.
