DESCRIPTION

The Luddite Shiraz 2022 is the flagship wine from Luddite Wines in Bot River, South Africa. Produced predominantly from estate-grown Shiraz, the 2022 vintage reflects a season of excellent vineyard health and slow, flavour-driven ripening. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs at cooler temperatures to maximise fruit expression and build structure through extended skin contact. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured for 24 months in French oak barrels, 10% of which were new, before the final blend was completed with small portions of Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Noir from the estate vineyards. Bottled at 14% ABV.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Classic Luddite aromatics of garrigue, wildflowers, fynbos and mixed herbs are layered with spicy dark plum, blackberry and subtle pepper notes.

Palate: Rich and beautifully balanced, with juicy mulberry, dark cherry and ripe black fruit supported by vibrant acidity and finely structured tannins. The extended barrel maturation adds depth and refinement without overpowering the purity of the fruit.

Finish: Long, savoury and persistent, with lingering olive tapenade, cracked black pepper, subtle spice and a distinctive saline minerality that carries through the finish.
