Luddite Wine

1 product

Luddite Wines is a small family winery situated on the Eastern slopes of the Houw Hoek Mountains. Niels and Penny Verburg started Luddite Wines in 1999, while Niels was still the winemaker at Beaumont in Bot River, with the sole aim of making world class Shiraz. They named their farm Luddite, meaning 'someone who is resistant to new technology or new ways of working'. Every effort is made, as the name states, to make wines with minimal interference and maximum integrity. The Luddite Shiraz has since been joined by a Chenin Blanc and the very successful Saboteur White and Red Blends. With Penny looking after the vineyards, and Niels in charge in the cellar, the family tradition continues with their daughter, Alice, recently joining the winemaking team.
