Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir 2024 is a 100% Pinot Noir produced by Peter-Allan Finlayson of Crystallum, using fruit sourced from several cool-climate vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde area and a high-altitude inland site. The grapes were hand harvested and naturally fermented, with 50% destemmed and 50% retained as whole clusters. Extraction was kept gentle during fermentation, followed by approximately four weeks on the skins. The wine was matured for 9 months in lightly toasted 228- and 500-litre French oak barrels. Bottled at 13.5% ABV. (Bottle size 750ml)

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Red cherry, cranberry and damson with rose and delicate floral notes, complemented by subtle earthy nuances.

Palate: Concentrated and focused, with sour cherry, rhubarb and cranberry alongside darker cherry fruit. Fine, grippy tannins and bright acidity provide freshness and structure.

Finish: Long and dry, with lingering red fruit, fine tannins and a subtle savoury character.

Crystallum, based in Walker Bay, South Africa, is a family-run and privately-owned winery which began in 2007. Brothers Andrew and Peter-Allan are the third generation of Finlayson winemakers and sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir winemaking in the Hemel-en-Aarde region. They specialise in the Burgundian varieties and follow a low intervention winemaking approach. Peter-Allan Finlayson is a leader in producing some of the finest modern-day SA Pinots.
