DESCRIPTION

Made from 100% Zinfandel (Primitivo) grown on the Da Capo estate in Sir Lowry’s Pass, Helderberg, rooted in a mix of decomposed granite (Tukulu) and Table Mountain sandstone soils on a northwest-facing slope. The vineyard, planted in 1999 to clone ZD1AXA on R110 rootstock, is drip-irrigated and vertically trellised. Grapes were cold-soaked for four days prior to fermentation at 22–28 °C, with malolactic conversion completed in tank on French oak staves before maturation in 60% French and 40% American 225 L barrels for 12–14 months. Residual Sugar 3.7 g/L. Bottled at 14.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Concentrated dried cranberry, pomegranate and tea leaf notes form the aromatic core, lifted by subtle balsamic tones and hints of sage and bay leaf.

Palate: Medium-bodied yet energetic, showing vibrant redcurrant and raspberry fruit with a savoury dimension from the herbal accents. Smooth entry and refined texture highlight the wine’s balance between richness and freshness.

Finish: Long, graceful and quietly powerful, carried by juicy acidity and fine tannins that keep the wine bright while allowing the red fruit and gentle spice to linger.
