DESCRIPTION

A single cask release from independent bottler Berry Bros. & Rudd (BBR), a British wine and spirits merchant that dates back over 300 years to 1698. This 15 year old single cask is from the Benrinnes distillery in Speyside, distilled in 2010, matured in a single ex-bourbon cask and finished in a Pedro Ximénez sherry barrique (225L cask) for three and half years, and bottled in 2025. Only 120 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at a cask strength of 58%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: A dense and brooding dram full of dark fruit with a meaty weight.

Palate: Sticky dates, black treacle syrup and burnt muscovado sugar with roasted nuts and a wisp of spice. Hints of espresso crema and orange peel emerge with time, alongside damp oak and leathery tobacco.

Finish: The finish is long, with a tannic grip and echoes of spiced fruitcake.

NOTES FROM THE WB TEAM

This marks our fifth exclusive release with BBR and our first from Benrinnes — a Speyside distillery otherwise unavailable in South Africa. Named after the nearby Ben Rinnes hill, the distillery is known for its robust, weighty spirit, shaped in part by traditional worm tub condensers. This meaty profile pairs particularly well with sherry cask maturation, making the extended PX finish on this single cask both deliberate and rewarding for fans of the style.

Decadent

"The impact of the PX casks is unmistakable in this dram. Thick, mouth filling and beautifully rounded enhancing the spirit's natural robustness without overwhelming its Speyside character."

Stunner

"Peach, apricot, mango, candy. Just a bowl of deliciousness. An undeniably great whisky, so sad only 120 bottles were made. It has an intriguing savoury element especially on the nose but I love the sweet fruit character on the palate. Sips like a dream on the palate despite the high abv, it has this beautiful elegance about. Worth getting 2 or 3 bottles."

Wow, just wow!

"This reminds me of Glendronach’s of old. Such an intriguing nose of juxtaposed savory and sweet that one could get lost in for hours. A palate full of figs and dates with a savory element always in the background. The finish again, sweet, then savory, then sweet, with an earthy tail. This is stunning. If you enjoy sherried whisky, you won’t want to miss this! Old school style sherry at its best."

Alex W. (5/5)

Sticky, meaty, sweet ribs!

"You don't find too many sherried whiskies like this anymore with the use of 'finishing' casks. This has that old school, full-on, meaty and rich style - but with no sulphur. This will keep me warm for the rest of winter, and its cheaper than Eskom electricity (when available), Woolies soup, Old Khaki jerseys, and its WAY more fun."
