Produced by the celebrated Donovan Rall on behalf of Dutchman Sebastiaan Klaassen, who owns a property in Banghoek. Vuurberg White 2021 is crafted from a blend of 47% Chenin Blanc, 20% Viognier, 14% Verdelho, 13% Roussanne and 6% Semillon. Chenin Blanc is harvested from Stellenbosch and Swartland, both from old bush vines on granite; Verdelho and Roussanne from Voor-Paardeberg, also on granite; Viognier from Stellenbosch on deep clay; and Semillon from Swartland bush vines on granite. All whole-bunch pressed and settled overnight. Chenin Blanc was fermented and aged in foudre, the rest in 225-litre older French oak. Roussanne and Verdelho were picked together and co-fermented. Bottled at 12.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: The bouquet is expressive and layered, revealing aromas of ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, complemented by hints of citrus zest. Subtle floral notes, such as white blossom, mingle with undertones of honey and a touch of flinty minerality.
Palate: The palate is rich and textured, offering a harmonious blend of ripe fruits, including pear, melon, and a touch of lemon curd. There’s a creamy mouthfeel with gentle oak nuances of vanilla and almond, contributing to its complexity without overpowering the fruit flavour profile.
Finish: The finish is long and elegant, with a vibrant acidity which keeps the wine lively and fresh. Lingering minerality and a subtle saline edge.
