Grapes for the Thorne & Daughters Copper Pot Chardonnay 2023 were sourced from a handful of vineyards in the Overberg region, where clay & shale soils and cool growing conditions create the foundation for an elegant wine. Grapes were handpicked early in the morning and transported to the cellar to preserve their freshness. Whole bunches were gently pressed in the old Vaslin basket press, with fermentation occurring naturally in small older French oak barrels. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation, enhancing its depth and texture. The wine was aged for 9 months in oak before being bottled with cross-flow filtration but without fining. Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 750ml) 

Nose: Fresh and inviting aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and white peach, with subtle hints of almond. Undertones of wet stone and flinty minerality provide additional depth.

Palate: Crisp and vibrant, showcasing flavours of citrus fruits, green apple, lemon curd, and a touch of pear.

Finish: Elegant and refreshing, with lingering notes of lemon and peach. The vibrant acidity leaves a clean, mouthwatering impression.

Thorne and Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe to produce authentic wines in the Western Cape where they have made their home. To produce the wines, they’ve drawn on the great history of Cape wine, putting together old vineyard parcels with new grape varieties and making wines with old school simplicity and a modern edge. Their approach to wine making is simple honest and gentle, looking to make wines that tell a story of the Cape of Good Hope.
