DESCRIPTION
Made from 90% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre sourced from the organically certified Kasteelsig vineyard in the Swartland, rooted in iron-rich red Glenrosa soils with pockets of shale-based Oakleaf on dry-farmed bush vines. Grapes were hand-harvested in early February 2020, foot-stomped due to equipment failure, and fermented whole-bunch with ambient yeasts before being pressed straight to barrel for malolactic fermentation. Maturation took place in 228L barrels, with 40% new oak used, and a small amount of Mourvèdre blended in prior to bottling. Residual Sugar 1.4 g/L. Bottled at 12.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Red and black berry aromas unfold gently, with raspberry, blackberry and a warm thread of spice. Subtle notes of cracked pepper and a touch of earthy warmth add savoury depth.
Palate: Bright, juicy red fruits lead—raspberry, plum and a hint of mulberry—balanced by a spicy core of black pepper and gentle earthiness. The texture remains lithe and refined, with purity of fruit at the centre.
Finish: A long, warming close where the acidity shows crisp freshness and the tannins feel fine, lightly grippy and well-integrated, giving the wine focus and quiet persistence.
