Made from estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%), the 2020 Anno 1693 is the second Bordeaux-style blend from Normandie, designed as a more accessible counterpart to Eisen & Viljoen. Grapes were hand-harvested after meticulous bunch sorting in the vineyard, then fermented in stainless steel with daily pump overs. Pressing occurred mid-ferment, with malolactic conversion and ageing taking place in French oak (25% new) for 25 months. After bottling, the wine spent another 3 years in the bottle before release. Bottled at 14% (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Open-knit and inviting, with aromas of dark plum, crushed raspberry, and black cherry layered over subtle vanilla pod, clove, and an earthy whiff of dried herbs. A hint of graphite lends structure to the ripe fruit core.
Palate: Supple and medium-bodied with elegant restraint. The red and black fruit theme continues—plum, cherry, and a touch of blackcurrant—folded into soft notes of mocha, spice, and fine cedar. Oak is supportive, not dominant.
Finish: Silky tannins trail off into a fresh, gently spiced finish. The acidity is finely poised, keeping the wine vibrant without stealing weight. Accessible in youth but shows promise for short- to mid-term cellaring.
