DESCRIPTION

The Noble Hill Field Atlas 2022 is a Rhône-style red blend from Noble Hill Wine Estate on the slopes of the Simonsberg in Paarl, South Africa. Produced from organically farmed estate vineyards, the 2022 vintage is a co-fermented field blend of 81% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre, 6% Viognier and 2% Grenache. Hand-harvested fruit is lightly crushed and cold-soaked before fermentation with a significant proportion of whole bunches for partial carbonic maceration. The wine is matured for 18 months in a combination of large-format concrete tanks and older 225-litre French oak barrels, with approximately 50% of the blend spending time in oak. Bottled at 13.5% ABV.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Lifted aromas of fresh black cherry, liquorice and cracked black pepper are layered with floral notes, black olive tapenade, umami and earthy complexity.

Palate: Elegant and beautifully balanced, with vibrant black cherry and dark berry fruit supported by savoury spice, fine tannins and bright natural acidity. Whole-bunch fermentation adds freshness and texture, while restrained oak maturation provides depth without overshadowing the purity of the fruit.

Finish: Long, smooth and refined, with lingering black fruit, peppery spice, subtle olive notes and a mineral freshness.
