DESCRIPTION

Sourced from a bush vine vineyard planted in 2014 on the north-facing slopes of Welbeloond Farm in Durbanville, this Pinotage grows in ancient stony shale soils just 9 km from the Atlantic Ocean. Farmed organically since its inception (though not yet certified), the site yields small crops — just 3.24 tons/ha in 2024. Grapes were hand-harvested early on 23 January, with 13.5% left as whole bunch, the rest destemmed into a two-ton open fermenter. After punchdowns three times daily, the wine was pressed on day four and matured in seasoned 225L French oak for nine months before bottling. Only 1,711 bottles were produced. Bottled at 13.5%. TASTING NOTES

Nose: Vivid and lifted, showing wild strawberry, black cherry, and mulberry, underpinned by herbal fynbos notes from the whole-bunch component. Subtle smoke and clove add savoury depth from barrel maturation.

Palate: Light-footed yet complex, with Pinot Noir–like delicacy. Red berry fruit is balanced by herbal nuances and gentle spice, framed by refreshing acidity. The texture is supple, with tannins that provide fine-grained structure without weight.

Finish: Dry, saline, and persistent, carrying savoury spice and mineral freshness alongside lingering red fruit.
