DESCRIPTION

Machir Bay, first launched in 2012, is the flagship of the Kilchoman core range, named after the beautiful beach on the west coast of Islay. Matured in a combination of predominantly ex-bourbon barrels with a small portion of ex-Oloroso sherry butts. Non-chilfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Lemon zest, vanilla and distinct coastal influence give way to floral intensity, juicy peaches, pears, and wafts of rich spices.

Palate: Bursts of tropical fruit and dried sultanas, warming smoke and waves of honey, malt, butterscotch and rich sweetness.

Finish: Sherry-soaked fruit, cracked black pepper and sea salt. Long-lasting with layers of citrus sweetness and maritime peat smoke.

Fresh and smoky

"Quite the flavour sensation - sweet, pepper, smoke. Very direct flavour that could be a bit more "integrated" but I guess this is a bit nontraditional which is needed in whisky making. Looking forward to trying more from this distillery - this has peaked my interest."

Nicely Balanced Peaty Whisky

"I tasted this at the Whisky Live Festival in Sandton and it was simply amazing, enough said!!!"

evan (4/5)

lovely surprise

"Had this at the bar. little bit hesistant as its very new and like my peaty stuff but wow what a great shock, peaty but just the right ammount and enough to get the subtle flavours of some dark fruit and spice... little gem this one"

Dean (4/5)

Lovely hint of peat

"A beautifully balance between honey and smoky peat flavours."

Pieter S. (5/5)

A young peat punch

"Many might believe that whisky drinkers want aged Islays to soften the peat. Kilchoman Machir Bay was the first whisky that I had, which changed my opinion. The peat punch you get from this younger Islay is absolutely superb. This definitely carries the signature flavour of Kilchoman and from my experience, it only gets better from here. if you like peat, this is a must-have."

Get involved!

"What a stunning whisky. The entry to a world of absolutely amazing whisky. Kilchoman Machir Bay is absolutely stunning. You'll definitely be hooked and looking for a few more Kilchoman bottlings after this one."

Smokey Crème Brûlée

"Young, but oh so good. Gently peated; the smell bringing to mind a used hearth. And under the smoke is crème brûlée. I can't really find the sherry, but there's a roundness to the flavours that then spike, tart and spicy."

Robert P. (4/5)

Kilchoman Jnr

"Well, if you like peat, then Machir Bay (aka Jnr) is certainly the right place to start. Find her light, refreshing and a very tantalising peat centre which swirls around your taste buds for some time. A great “Go To dram”"

Machir Bay

"Unique. Worth every cent. Not a whisky you want to share with friends."
