DESCRIPTION

From a distinctive parcel on the lower end of the Hartenberg Estate, Gravel Hill has long been recognised for its singular terroir of koffieklip (iron-rich gravel) soils, which impart a character and structure unlike any other Syrah in the Cape. Grapes from this site were vinified with meticulous care, the wine aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% second-fill). Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Complex and savoury, opening with aromas of underbrush, dried herbs, and black pepper. Layers of red berry fruit and dark cherry are intertwined with cinnamon, coriander seed, and a faint smokiness, lending both intrigue and depth.

Palate: Graceful on entry, the wine builds with intensity. Red fruits and wild berries mingle with warm spice, earthy notes, and a savoury umami edge. The mid-palate is vibrant yet structured, with the koffieklip soils echoing through a mineral core.

Finish: Firm tannins frame the finish, providing both power and definition without overshadowing the fruit. A lingering interplay of spice, earth, and subtle smoke carries through.
