DESCRIPTION

Crafted from estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, this 2021 release reflects Hartenberg’s long-standing reputation for classical Stellenbosch reds. After careful fermentation, the wine matured for 18 months in French oak, 50% of which was new, allowing the variety’s natural depth to harmonise with measured oak influence. Bottled at 14%.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Deeply aromatic with earthy undertones, lifted by dried fynbos and subtle tobacco leaf. Blackcurrant and cassis rise to the fore, enriched by a savoury nuance of forest floor and graphite.

Palate: Juicy and polished, revealing ripe blackcurrant and dark plum interwoven with cedar and a gentle spiciness from oak. The mid-palate is plush yet controlled, showing both fruit purity and classical restraint.

Finish: Long and suave, carried by ultra-fine tannins that provide both elegance and backbone. A quiet line of acidity keeps the close vibrant, while earthy and savoury notes echo with persistence.
