DESCRIPTION
A Cape Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Pinotage (35%), Shiraz (16%), and Roobernet (9%), sourced from prime vineyards in the Helderberg and Simonsberg, where the False Bay breezes help preserve freshness and concentration. After destemming and fermentation in open tanks with regular punchdowns, the wine underwent basket pressing and malolactic conversion in both tank and barrel. Maturation followed for 34 months in 225L French oak barrels before bottling by gravity flow. Bottled at 14.5% ABV, Nikela is a tribute to winemaker Jeremy Walker’s parents, and a wine built for longevity.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Generous and layered, with red berry fruit lifted by mint and cedar. Hints of mocha and spice round out a bouquet that marries elegance with Stellenbosch richness.
Palate: Full-bodied and supple, showing ripe red berries, plum, and subtle herbal notes. The fruit is integrated with cedar and mocha flavours from extended oak ageing, balanced by smooth, ripe tannins.
Finish: Long and satisfying, with tannins that are polished and structured yet never harsh. The lingering echo of berries, mint, and oak spice.
