Grand Yozakura, meaning "cherry blossom viewing at night", is the latest release in Glenfiddich's Grand series and pays homage to Japanese culture in the year that the country's whisky industry marks its 100th anniversary. Matured for 29 years in a combination of American and European oak casks then finished for 6 months in rare Japanese Awamori (a traditional Japanese distilled spirit) casks. The packaging was designed by Japanese artist June, whose work is known for incorporating Japanese culture and landscapes. Presented in a decorated bottle with bespoke wooden closure with engraved hanko stamp, and finished with a cloth capsule with traditional poem design. Bottled at 45.1%. (Bottle size 750ml.)
Nose: Zesty, ripe fruits and caramelised almonds. Lovely rich oak notes with hints of cinnamon and a distinctive herbal zing.
Palate: Indulgent layers of toasted oak, creamy vanilla toffee and silky tannin. Sporadic bursts of spice and sherbet lemons with crunchy green apple and warming earthy tones.
Finish: Long lasting oak.
