DESCRIPTION
Ballechin is the name of the heavily-peated whisky produced at the Edradour distillery since 2003, peated to at least 50ppm with Highland peat. This small batch release was distilled in February and March 2004, matured in 12 1st-fill bourbon barrels (that previously held Old Grand Dad bourbon), and bottled on 4 March 2024. 2,016 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at cask strength of 52.8%.
Nose: Sooty aromas of peat smoke, barley and big sweet vanilla, with spicy undertones, some apple and lemon, and a earthiness.
Palate: Creamy with clearly malty notes and more smoke, with the vanilla and spice still noticeable. Burnt herbs, oak, peppercorns and salted caramel.
Finish: Very long with hints of bright fruits, lots of malt, spicy oak and above all peat smoke.
