DESCRIPTION

Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse 2023 is crafted from a selection of heritage and younger vineyards across the Western Cape. The blend comprises Roussanne (30%) from decomposed granite and clay in Stellenbosch and Paardeberg, Chenin blanc (28%) from old vines rooted in granite and iron-rich Malmesbury soils, Chardonnay (20%) from the high-altitude Ceres Plateau, Semillon (15%) from Swartland’s alluvial beds, and Clairette blanche (7%) from Worcester. A warm, dry winter followed by helpful December rains produced small, concentrated berries, which were whole-bunch pressed, naturally fermented in older oak, and matured with minimal intervention. Residual sugar: 2.3g/l. Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 75cl)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Flinty mineral edges frame aromas of white peach, jasmine blossom and delicate citrus oil, with undertones of lanolin and warm hay.

Palate: Silky yet tightly wound, with guava and melon interlaced with vanilla pod, roasted almond and a vibrant twist of yuzu. A poised interplay of fruit, spice and savoury nuance gives dimension.

Finish: Long and coiled, carried by a chalky, phenolic grip and refreshing acidity with lingering notes of jasmine.
