Domaine de Montcalmès Terrasses du Larzac 2019 is produced from a blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache, and 20% Mourvèdre. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and crushed before undergoing a 30-day maceration, with regular pigeages. All vineyards at Montcalmès are sustainably farmed with no use of herbicides or pesticides. The grapes from each vineyard are vinified separately by varietal. Still separated by vineyard, and by varietal, the wine is then aged in 1, 2, and 3 year old barrels for 24 months. The final blend is aged for two months, in tank, before bottling. The wine is bottled, unfiltered, during a waning moon at 14.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Ripe red cherry fruit dominates the nose, accented by hints of garrigue spice, and floral notes.

Palate: In the mouth, the wine is broad and expansive, with flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and kirch notes.

Finish: Very long, with ripe, silky, almost delicate tannins supporting the dense fruit. Though Frédéric’s wines age beautifully, this wine is so silky and elegant, it is equally enjoyable in its youth.

Domaine de Montcalmès is a family-owned estate covering 22 hectares in the Languedoc wine region. It is situated in the communes of Puéchabon, Aniane, St Jean de Fos, and St Saturnin de Lucian. Owned by Frédéric Pourtalié and his sister Muriel, the domaine produces approximately 50,000 bottles per year.
