A blend of 41% Sangiovese, 26% Nebbiolo, 14% Shiraz, 11% Pinot Noir, 5% Barbera, and 3% Mourvèdre, sourced from the cool-climate Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, where the dry, temperate 2021 season delivered phenolic ripeness ahead of sugar accumulation. The Sangiovese vineyards underwent early bunch thinning to achieve even ripeness, with all components vinified individually to preserve their structure and purity before the final assemblage. The wine matured for 12 months in French oak (20% new) and was lightly filtered before bottling in July 2022. Residual Sugar 2.7 g/L. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Fresh, lifted aromas of red cherry and strawberry, with subtle accents of cedarwood, charcuterie, and a gentle tobacco nuance adding savoury depth.
Palate: A precise and clear expression driven by vibrant red fruit, moving into layers of brick dust, cured meat, and understated spice. The texture shows poise and balance, echoing the Italian varieties at the core of the blend.
Finish: A refined brick-dust tannin grip provides quiet authority, supported by fresh natural acidity that lengthens the finish and enhances the wine’s elegance and ageing potential.
