Fantastic 100% Malted Barley Whisky
"Fruity grain character with citrus and oak. . . Fantastic mouthfeel. A very well priced but quality everyday sipping Whisky."
A permanent expression from the versatile Loch Lomond distillery in the Highlands, relaunched and renamed Grainstorm in late 2024. This unconventional single grain is produced from 100% malted barley, distilled through a continuous Coffey still and matured exclusively in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Loch Lomond is one of the few Scotch distilleries capable of producing this style, as single grain whisky is typically made from wheat or maize, and most malt distilleries do not operate Coffey stills. Bottled at 40%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Fresh cut barley fields with a malty edge, biscuity with baked apples (and other sweet fruits) alongside gentle lemon peel.
Palate: Oily and crisp with pineapple juice and a lemon zestiness along with a lovely vanilla and coconut sweetness at the end.
Finish: Softer with gentle fruit notes, alongside a juicy sweetness, some nuttiness and soft spice.

"This is quite underrated and competes well with 12yo Single Malts. It is more on the pineapple/tropical fruit side of things but there are some odd notes like licorice/aniseed which can be found. The alcohol is well integrated so quite approachable for those new to Scotch."

"This wonderful grain whisky is good value for money, has loads of lovely Vanilla and caramel notes on the nose which carry all the way to the palate. Not too overpowering but enough to make you wanna get a second bottle next time you are at your local bottle store."
