This release is a WHISKYBROTHER EXCLUSIVE; selected by our team, bottled for us, and not available anywhere else in the world. |
A single cask release from the Strathmill distillery in Speyside, bottled by James Eadie independent bottlers. Distilled on 7 July 2011, matured for 13 years in a bourbon hogshead before being finished for 20 months in first-fill Malaga European oak hogshead, and bottled in 2025. Malaga is a sweet fortified wine from southern Spain, typically made from PX and Moscatel grapes that are often sun-dried to concentrate sugars. Only 249 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured, and bottled at a cask strength of 55.6%.
Nose: Rich dried mango and honeyed sweetness, with candied orange peel, spiced custard and caramelised sugar.
Palate: Creamy and full-bodied with layers of juicy apricots, sweet honey and malva sponge cake, balanced by gentle spice and toasted oak.
Finish: Long and sweet, with treacle syrup, drying spice and honey comb.
This is our 2nd exclusive with James Eadie and, after more than 100 releases, our very first from Strathmill — an elusive distillery seldom seen on whisky shelves. With a modest output of 2.6M litres a year, most of its whisky goes into Diageo’s blends, particularly J&B, making single malt releases, both official and independent, hard to find.
