This non-vintage Riesling is made because of the unique grapes found by chance by winemaker Justin Van Wyk in the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. It is a very small vineyard, planted in 1982 on rather sandy soil. Grapes were hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. Following a rough settling overnight, the juice was transferred to fermentation vessels for alcoholic fermentation. In 2017, Justin decided to keep one barrel to mature an extra year in a new French oak barrel. Time in barrel made the wine more creamy, complex and textured. This is therefore a blend of 80% from the 2018 vintage having matured for 5 months in concrete egg, and the 20% balance being the 2017 vintage French oak barrel that had matured for 17 months. 1,110 bottles were produced. Bottled on 29 August 2018 at 12.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Intense floral aromatics of jasmine and orange blossom with distinct lemon zest undertone.
Palate: Textured and complex, the wine begins by showing lemon and lime freshness on entry. On the mid-palate you feel the creamy texture coating your palate.
Finish: Crisp acidity with flinty minerality.
