XO Brandy is a collaboration between Six Dogs distillery and several renowned South African brandy distillers. Made from Chenin Blanc and Colombar grapes from the Western Cape wine region, each brandy selected has been double distilled in copper pot stills and aged in small French oak barrels for a minimum period of ten years. A very small quantity of hand-harvested fynbos honey from the Six Dogs distillery hives was introduced and then blended down. Packaged in a branded wooden box with the bottle number hand-carved on the lid. A total of 490 bottles was produced. Bottled at 38%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Peach and apricot and a hint of coconut.
Palate: Complex and smooth on the palate with dates and fig.
Finish: A lingering aftertaste of honey, passion fruit and dried peaches.
Six Dogs distillery is on the Boschkloof Farm in the De Wet Valley, near Worcester, on the edge of the Karoo. Charles Bryant, his brother Glenn and their friend Luigi Marucchi got the idea to start making gin back in 2013. Using the shed normally used to house their six dogs and an old copper geyser converted into a still, the aim was to create something totally unique. Today they take inspiration from the surrounding wild plants, also growing their own botanicals whilst supporting neighbouring farmers who grow specific fruit for them.
