Six Dogs Blue, a classic dry gin, derives its name from the blue pea flower (Clitoria Ternatea), an antioxidant and alleged aphrodisiac in traditional medicine. The infusion of blue pea gives the gin its striking and entirely natural colour, while the alchemy of this unusual botanical is further revealed when the gin is mixed with a good tonic, changing the colour to light pink. Bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Freshly cut grass with hints of rose pelargonium.
Palate: Coriander and tart mandarin flavours.
Finish: Lingering floral notes.
Six Dogs distillery is on the Boschkloof Farm in the De Wet Valley, near Worcester, on the edge of the Karoo. Charles Bryant, his brother Glenn and their friend Luigi Marucchi got the idea to start making gin back in 2013. Using the shed normally used to house their six dogs and an old copper geyser converted into a still, the aim was to create something totally unique. Today they take inspiration from the surrounding wild plants, also growing their own botanicals whilst supporting neighbouring farmers who grow specific fruit for them.
