A higher proof traditional British Royal Navy style rum, produced using the blending recipe from the Admiralty (last used in 1970). Pusser's Gunpowder Proof rum takes its name from the naval tradition of providing sailors a daily ration of rum, distributed by the purser (the man responsible for the rum on the ship, known as the ‘pusser’). The Pusser would dispel any complaints of watering down the rum by wetting a pinch of gunpowder with the rum and attempting to light it. If the mixture ignited it was proof that the rum was strong enough. Bottled at 54.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Pungent molasses, treacle, toffee, honey and vanilla with oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
Palate: Full-bodied with a medley of flavours: molasses, treacle, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, toffee and espresso.
Finish: A long finish, and despite its strength, smooth and mellow.
