Paul Jaboulet Ainé Hermitage La Chapelle 1982 is produced from 100% Syrah grapes, sourced from top vineyard sites that include Les Bessards, Le Meal and Les Rocoules. The Syrah vines, aged between 40 and 95 years, are planted in poor and very diverse terroirs: Les Bessards with very uneven granite soils, Le Meal with limestone and silica and Les Rocoules with limestone and clay. It is the richness of these different exclusive terroirs which provide the La Chapelle with its signature complexity. At perfect maturity, the Syrah grapes are picked by hand, carried in small crates to the winery, hand-sorted, destemmed and lightly crushed. The maceration on the skin lasts 3 to 4 weeks with daily pump-overs. Aged in French oak barrels (20% new) for 15 to 18 months, followed by final blending. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Complex with an exotic yet compelling nature. Asian spices, roasted espresso, creamy cassis fruit, prunes, plums and hints of Peking duck lathered with hoisin sauce.

Palate: Sumptuous and full bodied. Surprising how dried fruit notes still come through, prunes and cassis. Mid-palate has a creamy texture with more of the tertiary Asian spices and hoisin sauce flavor profile.

Finish: Sweet tannin with lingering notes of espresso and Asian spices.

The Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné was created in 1834 through the magical conjunction of a fertile land on a hillside by the Rhone and a family with a passion for winemaking. Famed through the Hermitage La Chapelle, over the years the Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné took ownership of the finest appellations of the northern Rhone Valley, applying organic and biodynamic principles since taken over by the Frey family, ensuring a legacy in both vineyards and incredible wines. .
