Established in 2016, small-batch Origen Mezcal is produced by 4th- generation Mezcalero Jose Manual Mendezin in the small town of San Dionisio Ocotepec in Oaxaca, Mexico. Following production techniques dating back to the 1500’s, Origen Mezcal stays true to the history of the earliest expressions of mezcal on record. Agaves are harvested after 8 years, then roasted in an earthen pit using heated volcanic stones for 5 days before being crushed with a 1-ton stone wheel and naturally fermented for 2 weeks in open-air pine vats using no chemicals or yeasts. A 200-litre copper pot finishes the process with a double distillation over fire. Bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Earthy with hints of smoke, roasted agave and fresh herbs.
Taste: Well balanced and smooth.
Finish: A long aftertaste of fresh agave.
