Taittinger is a family-run Champagne producer based in Reims. It traces its origins to 1734, when Jacques Fourneaux set up a wine business in the region. Pierre Taittinger bought the estate in 1932 and gave it the family name. The family sold the business in 2005 and Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger bought it back the following year. His daughter Vitalie has run it since 2020.
Chardonnay sets the style. The Brut Réserve contains around 40% Chardonnay, which is more than most large Champagne producers use. The flagship Comtes de Champagne is a 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs made only in declared vintages, starting with the 1952. The wines age in the chalk cellars beneath the former Abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Reims. These were originally Gallo-Roman chalk pits dating from the 4th century. Taittinger owns close to 290 hectares of vineyards across Champagne.
