Restless River Wanderlust Pinot Noir 2020 is a blend of two vineyards within two neighbouring appellations known for their cooler growing season, ideal for the cultivation of pinot noir: Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (ancient decomposed granite soils, north facing, mid slopes) and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge (shallow shale soils onto clay, east facing, mid slopes). The grapes were hand-picked and placed as whole clusters into open top vats, then gently trodden (footstomped) to break the berries and release the juice. After a few days, natural fermentation began and the grapes were lightly punched down daily. Once fermented, the wine was bucketed into an old basket press. The wine was gravity fed into barrels (10% new) where it remained for one year. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Fruit driven with notes of raspberries and cranberries shining through. Elegant hints of a subtle savoury earthy side to the wine with notes reminiscent of mushrooms.

Palate: Beautiful on entry with predominantly red fruits coming through, raspberries, cherries and cranberries.

Finish: Lovely acidity with a fine tannin grip. Lingering notes of tea leaf and a hint of mushroom.
