A limited-edition single malt from Kilchoman, Casado takes its name from the Portuguese word for marriage. This 2022 release was produced by taking 38 casks of 6yo first-fill ex-bourbon barrel matured Kilchoman (Kilchoman's standard 50ppm heavily-peated spirit distilled in 2014) and then married together for 2 years in two 6,000-litre Portuguese red wine vats before bottling. 12,900 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%.
Nose: Campfire smoke balanced with ripe summer stone fruits; peach, plum and cherry. Deep notes of marzipan combined with layered maritime notes.
Palate: The red wine vatting brings pepper and spice. Dry, salty peat smoke, yet fruit notes of apricot and lemon find their way through.
Finish: A long finish which brings a hot, spicy character. Stewed, cooked fruit gives a sweet-jam profile and an on-going sweetness that balances the classic Kilchoman smoke.
