Metanoia Distillery

Metanoia Distillery is a South African whisky producer, located on a working farm in the Klein Karoo. The distillery forms part of the broader agricultural environment, with a focus on integrating whisky production into the rhythms and conditions of the land. The region’s semi-arid climate, characterised by warm days, cool nights, and low humidity, encourages early cask interaction and flavour development.

The name Metanoia is derived from a Greek word meaning a "transformative change" in perspective or way of life. This concept underpins both the farm and distillery ethos, reflecting a considered, intentional approach to production, sustainability, and long-term vision.

Founded by Kenny Scheepers, the distillery is shaped by a clear ambition to produce whisky that expresses both place and process. This is complemented by the involvement of Andy Watts, a leading figure in South African whisky, whose experience informs maturation strategy, cask selection, and overall house style. The distillery uses a custom built German Müller pot still, the only operational one of its kind in South Africa.
