Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, Caladoc and Carignan grape varietals. Since the autumn of 2002, part of the vineyard has been run using biodynamic methods. Vine density is now controlled to ensure a yield of 25hl/ha. All vines are now over 15 years old and are maintained without the use of any mineral nitrogenous fertilizers. Grapes are analysed and only picked when they achieve full phenolic ripeness. The wines are put into new 225-litre barrels after the end of the alcoholic fermentation and before the malolactic fermentation, racking and blending. A selection of coopers is made in order to adapt the choice of wood origins and the type of toasting to each vintage. The wine is kept for a minimum of 1 year in the bottle before it is marketed. Bottled at 15.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: The bouquet shouts concentrated, very ripe black fruit, grilled spice and toasted oak.

Palate: Lush and opulent, leading with aromas of black fruit (blackberries, black cherries and plums) reappear with a complex empyreumatic web leading into mint.

Finish: Velvety tannins and in perfect balance. Lingering soft notes of sweet spices and cedar oak.

Gérard Bertrand started out in winemaking more than 30 years ago, following in the footsteps of his father Georges, whom Bertrand claims was one of the first winemakers in the Languedoc region to break away from producing entry level wines, and to concentrate on terroir.
