De Kleine Wijn Koöp is a small‐batch South African winery run by winemaker Wynand Grobler and his wife Anya Grobler from a modest cellar in the heart of Paarl. The Groblers describe their operation as a “two‐person co‐operative,” rejecting large corporate structures in favour of hands-on involvement: Wynand personally oversees vineyard sourcing, fermentation and bottling, drawing from select, somewhat “mysterious” vineyards across regions such as Stellenbosch, Swartland, Walker Bay and Franschhoek.
What makes them unique is their commitment to creativity, terroir-driven fruit and tiny production runs, producing wines that depart from the mainstream both in style and label concept (for example their “Kreatuur” series, where the blend and even the creature on the label change each year). Their philosophy centres on minimal intervention: hand-harvesting, ambient yeast ferments, small barrels or older oak, and rigorous attention to detail in small lots. In doing so they aim to express the essence of each vineyard parcel and vintage.
