This limited release Balvenie 1993 PortWood was distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2005. The whisky was first matured in American oak casks and then finished in port pipes. This was very much a precursor to the later released 21yo PortWood. Bottled at 43%.

Nose: Soft juicy raisins, honey, vanilla and spice. In the background there is oak and butterscotch. Wafts of nuts float around intermingling with the sweetness.

Palate: Initially sweet and spicy, but builds with warming oak. It is smooth with a pepper and cinnamon spice.

Finish: The finish warms the soul for a long time ending with notes of leather and nuts.
