The Whitehall Chardonnay celebrates the legacy of site-selected vineyards. The grapes for this premium Chardonnay are close to the Whitehall farm from where Neil produced the first certified wine from Elgin. The philosophy is to craft Chardonnay of great purity, reflecting the site and the season in which it grew. These vineyards are positioned on south-facing slopes of which the soil is mainly white mineral sandstone and quartz on a clay sub-base. The vines are trellised and have access to supplementary irrigation. Harvest commenced on the 24th of February 2016 at 22.2°B. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed on a Champagne pressing cycle and using only the cuvee. 100% barrel fermented, using 25% new 228-litre fine-grained oak barrels and the rest in 2nd and 3rd-fill oak barrels. The wine spent 9 months in 228-litre French oak barrels. Bottled in November 2016 at 12.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Lovely warm buttered toast aromas on the nose. Layered beautifully with floral aromas like orange blossom and ripe peaches.

Palate: Fruit forward entry, notes of ripe peach and nectarine. Great mid-palate weight with a lovely creamy texture.

Finish: Despite the age, a refreshing acidity that keeps the wine focused. Lingering notes of freshly baked brioche buns.
