Named after the headland on the Isle of Skye’s westernmost shore, Neist Point is the latest release from Talisker available for travel retail. Matured exclusively in ex-American oak, predominantly refill casks. Bottled at 45.8%.
Nose: Spent match and peppery spice rise above clear maritime notes of brine and seaweed, to introduce a sweet, soft malty layer of fresh-baked bread and ripe red fruits with a hint of fresh planed wood.
Palate: Sweet at first then salty and slightly honeyed, then savoury – rather like beefy, highly seasoned homemade potato chips – before giving way to dark chocolate laced with chilli pepper.
Finish: Long and warming with mint and hints of wood ash, dark chocolate ginger and tar. Growing cooler, with subdued, late chilli heat and a last, lingering savoury smokiness.
