The Oldenburg Vineyards Series is a true expression of terroir through a range of single cultivar wines and the confluence of the 8 natural elements that determine the unique terroir is explored through these wines. The 8 elements are depicted on the intricate Oldenburg Vineyards Series label design. Grapes for the Chardonnay 2021 were harvested on 23-24 February and 3 March 2021 at 22.5° Balling, hand-picked from 14- and 15-year-old trellised vines, growing on alluvial and weathered table mountain sandstone soils at 350m above sea level. Bunches were sorted by hand and whole bunch pressed in a pneumatic press, on a gentle Champagne cycle. The juice was settled overnight and then racked to 228-litre French oak barrels for spontaneous fermentation. Spontaneous fermentation took 2 months to complete. Partial malolactic conversion was done on some of the batches. The wine was matured for 11 months in barrel, after which the wine was gently fined and filtered before bottling. 14,190 bottles were produced. Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Ripe apricots, naartjie, quince and loquat aromas are in abundance. The touch of oak is well integrated, with a light vanilla and slightly smoky characteristics floating at the edge of perception.

Palate: The wine has a divine mid-palate weight, with a juicy acidity. Additionally, the palate shows a delicate balance of jasmine, honey melon and orange peel.

Finish: A long and zesty finish.
