The Whitehall Chardonnay celebrates the legacy of site-selected vineyards. The grapes for this premium Chardonnay are close to the Whitehall farm from where Neil produced the first certified wine from Elgin. The philosophy is to craft Chardonnay of great purity, reflecting the site and the season in which it grew. These vineyards are positioned on south-facing slopes of which the soil is mainly white mineral sandstone and quartz on a clay sub-base. The vines are trellised and have access to supplementary irrigation. Harvest commenced on the 18th of February and carried through until 18 March 2019. Grapes were whole bunch pressed and 100% barrel fermented, using 30% new 228-litre fine-grained oak barrels and the rest in 2nd and 3rd-fill oak barrels. 30% went through malolactic fermentation. The wine spent 9 months in 228-litre French oak barrels. Bottled in November 2020 at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml).

Nose: Initially floral, with notes of orange blossom and acacia. Nutty notes of hazelnuts with a subtle creamy character. Hints of white nectarines and a flinty minerality.

Palate: On entry under ripe stonefruit, peaches and nectarines. Lime and grapefruit citrus notes. Mid-palate has a beautifully weighted creamy character that's not overwhelming.

Finish: Bright acidity, that helps keep the wine focused. Lingering notes of baking spices and hazelnuts.
