Grapes for the Three Barrel Shiraz 2016 are harvested at the lowest temperature possible. Sixteen carefully selected rows of Shiraz are used for this specific wine. Skins and juice are fermented in open top fermentation tanks for 14 days. Punch-down every 6 hours ensured a slow and cool fermentation. Wine is then separated from the skins and placed in 100% new French oak barrels for 36 months. Bottled at 14.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: White pepper and ripe plum.
Palate: Blackberry and prunes on entry. Lovely oak spice and cloves on mid-palate with hints of pepper.
Finish: Fine powdery tannins. Rich dark chocolate and oak spice flavours that linger on the finish.
Lord's Wines, a family-run boutique winery, is situated high up on the northern slopes of the mountains near McGregor, amidst fynbos-covered hills. It was in 2006 that viticulturist Jacie Oosthuizen realised his dream acquiring the property and combining his love for cricket (with a nod to Lord's Cricket Ground in London) and wine. At 500m above sea level, the vineyards are among the highest in the region enjoying a climate which is cooler than most and making it suitable to produce Pinot Noir and other wines from suitable cultivars.
